This section is under construction and is expected to be completed no later than July 31, 2008.

COMPENSATORY DRAFT PICKS

Under the current CBA, the only compensatory picks are for those players drafted in the 1st round who are unsigned when their rights expire.  Teams who have such picks receive a compensatory pick in the 2nd round at the same position in the round as the player drafted who was lost, with all other normal picks moved back one spot.  No other compensatory picks are allowed.

    EXAMPLES
    1. A team loses the rights to a player drafted #12 overall in 2004.  The team will receive a compensatory pick in the 2nd round of the Entry Draft immediately following, with the pick being the 12th of the round [#42 overall].
    2. Team A loses the rights to a player drafted #9 overall in 2006, and Team B loses the rights to a player drafted #13 overall in 2007.  Both teams receive a compensatory pick in the 2nd round of the Entry Draft immediately following; Team A receives the 9th selection in the 2nd round [#39 overall], Team B receives the 13th selection in the 2nd round [#43 overall].
